Rap Face-Off: Kanye West vs. J.Cole

On this very day, two of rap's best dropped their latest album. Kanye West dropped his much anticipated album, Yeezus and J.Cole dropped his long-awaited sophomore album, Born Sinner. J.Cole pushed his album release up to compete with West, which was a definite risk, but he wanted to make a statement.

I listened to both of the albums today, I couldn't wait to see what they came up with. Both of these albums are very different aside from both of them having a lot of Biblical references. Well, there's Kanye who comes right out and says, 'I am a God', and obviously there's the album title itself. In Cole's 'Forbidden Fruit', he says, 'I'mma drop the album the same day as Kanye.' It has the most Biblical references of the whole album, and considering the song title and lyrics, it was clearly made in relation to West's album.

I've looked at some reviews for the album. For one thing, Kanye is such a presence that I feel people who aren't familiar with rap may not even know about J.Cole. For those who don't, you may know, 'Blow Up', 'Can't Get Enough' ft Trey Songz, 'Nobody's Perfect' ft Missy Elliot or 'Work Out'. And I know people just wanna see what kind of craziness is going to come out of Kanye's mouth, and Yeezus doesn't disappoint. I also don't understand it. In a recent interview with Rolling Stones where he said, "It's only led me to complete awesomeness at all times," in reference to the T.Swift debacle back in the day. He also mentioned how this album has a very "house" vibe to it, and it kind of does. These are not lyrics you take to heart, but you just go, "what the hell is going through this man's head?" I don't think we'll ever know... His album has been getting rave reviews though, mainly for doing something different.

Like I mentioned earlier, these albums are very different. Cole's album is clearly him trying to prove himself as a solid rapper who can write good music. Kanye's lyrics are very minimal, but interesting. As Cole is really telling stories. Born Sinner is more of a quiet album, but the lyrics are solid. Loved the two he put out ahead of time, Power Trip ft Miguel and Crooked Smile ft TLC. The song he wrote for Nas, his idol, is just too good. Apparently, Nas was into J.Cole's music, but was disappointed in something he put out, and it really hit Cole. The song, 'Let Nas Down' goes in to depth on all that. Overall, I enjoyed his album more, then again I may be bias towards him. I've loved pretty much everything he's released. And I just don't understand Kanye. Maybe I just have to listen to it some more....

Here are my favorite lines from the albums.

Yeezus:

"Star Wars fur, yeah I'm rockin' Chewbacca" - Guilt Trip

"In a French-ass restaurant/Hurry up with my damn croissants" - I am a God

Born Sinner:

"Boy Meets World/I'm trying to find a new Topanga" - Villuminatti, Talk about BMW, win my heart.

Have you heard the albums yet?

Whose album are you more excited about?

Michelle's Movie Corner: Man of Steel

How many of you went to see the latest superhero movie, Man of Steel, this weekend? You know, I had to check it out! And let's be completely honest, even Henry Cavill's good looks couldn't distract me from how bad the movie was. No it wasn't the worst movie ever or anything, but it certainly did not live up to my not so high hopes either.

You all know of my die-hard love for the last Batman series, if you don't, I LOVE BATMAN. And I really liked The Avengers, even the individual Captain America and Thor movies. I hate Iron Man, cause he's an ass, but didn't mind him in The Avengers. That movie was great because all the superheroes really worked well together. Also, it was a nice light superhero movie. It was funny and had a lot of action. And for the opposite reason, I loved the Batman movies, because those were taken in a completely different direction. It was very dark, but still had its funny moments. But the thing with all of those superhero movies, all of the characters were really well developed. You had a good grip on these personalities and could connect with them.

The beginning of Man of Steel gives you a good background on how Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman, whatever you refer to him as, was born and ended up on Earth. A bit too long if you ask me... You learn right away who the villain is and all that jazz. However, after that it cuts straight to Superman as his present day self, with flashbacks throughout the movie. I did not enjoy that. I would rather of have had one key flashback or had just a section in the beginning dedicated to him growing up.

With that, there just wasn't much of a character development. I swear if you added up the amount of time Henry Cavill actual speaks, it would add up to not even half hour of the movie, and it's two and a half hours long! You can tell that they wanted him to come off very honorable and just a good person, but he ended up looking spineless. Obviously, he can't get into fights with humans cause he'll kill them, but he never stood up for himself with his words either. I mean, he just stood there. He had no personality... Then of course there was Superman and Lois Lane. We all knew that was the love story, but they didn't even try to have a good story behind it. It was more like, you know it's going to happen, so it happened.

The graphics were great, which was really the only plus for me. Now, I didn't mind any of the actors, crazy I know! The writing and general story could have been better. It was filled with so many empty scenes. I'm gonna go rewatch This is the End now...

Hey guys! I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I am doing this radio thing where I get to go in and record a playlist that will be aired on the radio. Well, I'm going in today to record it and it will air tonight at 11:00 PM ET(8:00 PT, 10 CT). I put together this playlist a whiles back, so it may be a bit outdated, but I still love all the songs! The radio station is called Radio 104.5, and if you go onto their website, click HERE, you can click the button up top to listen along! Or if you have the iHeartRadio app, you should be able to find the station there too! Anywhos, if you can't listen along, which is fine, I'll be super lame, here's the playlist I put together:

Michelle's Movie Corner: This Is The End

Go see it! Summer movies are officially in full effect, and This is the End does not disappoint! Man of Steel comes out Friday, which will give the comedy a run for it's money, but I say watch both! I'm on the fence about the Superman flick, but I'll have to see it to make any judgments. I have some hope in the fact Christopher Nolan produced it. Anywhos, we are going to talk about how awesome This is the End was!

So, what are all these actors doing playing themselves? If you don't know, This is the End is the big screen version of the short Jay and Seth vs the Apocalypse, made by Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel years ago. The big screen version added a few more key names to face the Apocalypse including James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. There were some great appearances from Emma Watson, Michael Cera, Rihanna and many others!

The basic plot line of the movie goes that Jay goes to visit Seth in LA, since they're biffers. Seth is invited to James Franco's house warming and he tells Jay, who is not so thrilled. Jay is not a fan of Seth's new Hollywood friends and just wants Seth all to himself. Of course Jay doesn't want to go and then ends up trapped in Franco's house with all of Seth and all his friends as the apocalypse begins.

The movie is just plain hilarious. Everyone is poking fun of themselves and each other. And if you are familiar with their previous work, you will just appreciate that they are all in a movie together. The casting is perfect, even the little cameos. Whoever thought of making Michael Cera a complete ass is genius! He was so beyond ridonkulous, I just couldn't. From beginning to end, I was dying. And the soundtrack was perfect, I might have to get it, or maybe just the movie when it comes out on DVD. This is the comedy of the summer, or year... Yeah let's take it that far, it was that funny.

No spoilers cause you just have to see it! But I will say that the end of This is the End, is by far one of my favorites ever. Absolutely freaking amazing.

Two posts in one day? I got way too much time on my hand these days. But it's been a while since one of my massive TV posts. And I think you should all have a nice selection this summer, so I'm going to give you a preview of what you can be tuning into this summer. For example, my latest 'Current Obsession', Graceland premieres tonight on USA at 10pm. You should tune into that if you get the chance, I am loving the show already! Since I had a massive post on that already, you can click HERE to read it, and we'll skip it and leave some room for another show.

Teen Wolf - June 3

The only reason I still watch this show is for Dylan O'Brien, he is just the cutest.

Mistresses - June 3

I know a few of these premieres already happened, but I'm a bit behind on life. I did want to check this out, because I'm a huge Alyssa Milano fan. Charmed anyone? I have to give the premiere a go just for her.

The Bridge - June 10

Sounds like an interesting show. It is about two cops played by Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir who are after a killer who works from both Mexico and the US. And the fact that it's on FX hopefully means that it is pretty gritty. And I'm all about some serious drama.

Pretty Little Liars - June 11

The show I can never stop watching. It gets so annoying sometimes, but it is just too addicting!

Devious Maids - June 23

Very much on the fence about. It is basically Desperate Housewives, but maids. However, I do know that Drew Van Acker, Jason on PLL, is going to be in it. And I'm good with staring at his face all summer.

Rizzoli & Isles - June 25

This show is really good, the cases are interesting and I love the actors, but I have a hard time keeping up with it. Hopefully, I can get caught up by then to keep up with this season.

Dexter - June 30

The last season! Can you believe it? I feel like it's too soon, but it has been 8 seasons. Still, this has been a solid show from the beginning. We have to see how it all ends!

Suits - July 3

Oh you knew this was coming. One of my favorites! I have been not-so-patiently waiting for this day, and it is still so far away! The best part? Suits is somehow doing a whole Game of Thrones crossover! First they had Lord Varys, and now Catelyn Stark is going to be on! This show just makes me so happy!

Breaking Bad - August 11

So far away, but I'm kind of glad. I have a lot to catch up on, but hopefully I'll be ready in time for this season. This is the final round for this instant classic. By far one of the greatest shows ever, I can't believe it's ending. It has a great run, and I'm sure it's gonna end with a bang... Or two.

What shows will you be tuning into this summer?

It finally happened, went out to support my lover, Davy Franco yesterday. I have been waiting for this movie for quite some time now, because this is the first time my lover was one of the leads in a movie. Usually he just plays the asshole, this time he was just awesome. And he held his own with an insanely talented cast. Davy played Jack Wilder, one of the Four Horseman alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Isla Fisher. The cast doesn't stop there, it also has Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman and Sir Michael Caine. I mean DAMN. Sometimes a cast like this means that the movie is just too good to be true, but I was pleased with this one. And I promise it isn't only because of my lover!

This movie came out at the perfect time, because it is definitely a fun summer action/magical movie! It was a bit slow at times, especially in the first half. But the second half picked up. My lover kicked some major ass, which was so much fun to see. The magic was entertaining, sometimes major confusing, but still cool.

Minor spoiler real quick! The movie opens with Jesse's character J. Daniel Atlas doing a card trick. He is doing it on this girl, but it is shot as though the trick is being done to us. And no the girl doesn't pick a card and just show it to the audience, it is done by memory. So we never know what she picks, but that as an audience we get the chance to choose for ourselves. And yes, this could be the whole point of the trick or just a clever camera trick, but he got the trick right with the girl.... And it was the card that I had in mind too! You have to SEE IT! End of spoiler

If you've seen the trailer you know the basic idea is that these four magicians are basically 'robbing' banks. And yes, it is a lot to do with that, but it is all a master plan. Someone brought the four of them together to go through with this, all leading up to the biggest trick of all. At the beginning there is a hooded figure that is creeping on all the main magicians, ultimately to bring them together. The whole movie is spent trying to figure out what the point of all these elaborate heists are and who is orchestrating the whole deal.

Now my friend and I, we are those annoying people at the movies who talk the whole time. We talk about how it's going to end and how much I love my lover. The whole movie leads up to us finding out who the hoodie person from the beginning of the movie is, the one who brought the magicians together. And my friend and I were both just completely surprised. We were dead set on this one character, and it wasn't. I felt kind of stupid, because I got so many of the other parts, but I didn't put two and two together. Either way, my friend and I legit did a major WTF to the movie screen. It made us want to go back and rewatch to see if we missed out on any clues.

As they kept saying in the movie, "the closer you look, the less you see." Keep that in mind when you watch the movie.

Grade: B

Have you seen the movie yet?

Will you be checking it out?

Ongoing Obsession: Dave Franco

There is no way I can say 'Current Obsession' for this love of my life, considering how long I've been obsessed with him and the fact that I will love him forever. I was thinking about my posts and realized that aside from maybe Batman, he is the one with the most recognition from me. I tend to talk about him any chance I get. For the Emerging Talents I posted about him, even though he's been around for a while now. And my second post ever was about him. Yeah, I am OBSESSED.

I call this the 'lick smirk'. If you look up his gifs there are endless lick smirks, and I just die. Ughh.

Why are we talking about him now? Because his latest movie Now You See Me just came out yesterday! I have to go see it this week! And all of you should too, especially since he is one of the leads! It doesn't matter if it is actually good or not, just go support my lover! I'll give an honest review on it though, but no doubt I'll be a bit bias towards him. The cast is pretty stellar, and the modest man he is often says 'I don't know how I snuck myself in there'. Oh you earned it love, you earned it. So the cast, there's Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman and Sir Michael Caine. WHAT?! I know, it's a bangin cast. Hopefully that's a good sign!

I'll talk more about the movie later, let's focus on my lover for now. I don't know how I found out after-the-fact, but apparently my lover was on Ellen yesterday, but I missed it. And no one has posted it online yet!? What is this nonsense? But I have watched all the other interviews of him, because I creep so hard. And there are so many new ones for this movie, WOOT. This interview in particular I enjoyed, especially when the interviewer brings up his Twilight audion. His response is just priceless.

And this interview and his bubbling personality reminded me of when Buzznet went to interview him for Warm Bodies. Patty had actually asked him some of my questions, which was the best thing ever. Definitely a highlight of my life! If you never saw that you should, click HERE! If I ever did get a chance to interview him in person, I promise you Davy, I will never ask about your brother or Twilight!

I could talk about this guy forever! But before I go, can we just talk about how amazing it is that my lover is teaming back up with.... Zac Efron. I mean THANK YOU LORD! They have already played biffers in Charlie St. Cloud. But I remember after that movie he would just be like 'yeah I worked with Zefron', but he acted all embarressed about it. He was only in that movie for like 5 seconds though. They are legit playing biffers in this one and they are both main characters. Hopefully that is a real-life bromance now, girl can dream... The movie is called Townies, and everyone just stop and appreciate:

Michelle's Movie Corner: Epic

I've been slacking with my movie going, but I did get some time yesterday. I went to see the animated feature Epic. If you don't know what it's about, here's a little overview:

It is about a young girl, Mary Katherine 'MK'(Amanda Seyfried) who moves in with her dad(Jason Sudeikis) after her mom passes. Her dad is a bit eccentric, an eccentric scientist that is. She doesn't understand him, but wants to, but he is too busy trying to make a breakthrough about a world of tiny people. And the movie takes off from there.

You guys know I love my animated movies, but I have to say I've been rather disappointed as of late. The last one I saw was The Croods and that was nothing amazing either. I was not impressed, I think the title was being a bit too ambitious. I watched the movie in 3D, but I don't think it was intended for 3D. If you do choose to watch it, save some money and watch it without 3D. I have a feeling the quality was better without the glasses.

But, I have to say that Mub (Aziz Ansari) and Grub (Chris O'Dowd) were absolutely fantastic. I love comedic sidekicks, and they definitely delivered. If the movie was about them I think I would have loved it. I wouldn't be mad if there was a sequel just about them. Or a movie with Aziz and ChrisNone of the other characters really made an impression, aside from this little flower girl who was 'awesome'. The story in itself just was not strong enough. Plus there was a lot of unncessary actors: Beyonce, Steven Tyler, Pitbull. There time would have been better spent making a song together...

Grade: C

I know, Mub, I'm sorry. I'm done now!

Have you seen Epic yet?

Current Obsession: USA's 'Graceland'

You all know I love my TV shows and bromances. And of course USA, mother of bromances, is rolling out yet another one for me! As though Suits and Psych wasn't enough! I suppose they have to make-up for cancelling Common Law, I mean how dare they take Michael Ealy off my TV on a weekly basis? How DARE they?! It's okay though, he's coming back soon in J.J. Abrams Almost Human, WOOT!

Anywhos, we are here to talk about USA's newest bromance... show, Graceland. I was in need of a new summer show, thank goodness for this! The pilot was everywhere free for a while earlier this month, I think it's gone now. But the season only premieres on June 6th, so no worries! I'm just an uber TV geek that watches things way ahead of time. And they are having advance screenings at some movie theaters with a Q&A with the actors next week, hopefully I will be able to go! I mean they are in LA, and I am not, but you know their faces will be on the big screen. And I think we can still ask questions from other locations, but I will wimp out haha.

Now, let me break the show down for you! There is a lot going on in the show and the part that got me really hooked is that it is actually based off of some real events! So, 'Graceland' is what the characters call their house. The people living there are undercover FBI, U.S. Customs and Drug Enforcement agents. They all have their own role and work as a team. The show focuses on Paul Briggs(Daniel Sunjata), who is the veteran of the and Mike Warren(Aaron Tveit), the rookie who is just getting started. The fact that these two men are going to be on my TV screen on a weekly basis is more than enough, but the fact the show is quality is a nice bonus.

Brief overview, NO SPOILERS, I promise! The pilot takes you through Warren coming in as the newbie and everyone giving him a hard time. They get into a pretty serious case, but he does well and impresses the crew. But there is a serious curveball at the end of the pilot that sets the tone for the series, and I cannot wait to see more! I mean, I get season finales and cliffhangers, but the pilot and already a cliffhanger? I NEED MORE. NOW.

Like I mentioned my admiration for those men earlier. This cast is great! If you don't know Daniel Sunjata and Aaron Tveit, you be missing out. Sunjata was in FX's Rescue Me(fantastic show) and also had a role in The Dark Knight Rises. I have mentioned Tveit before, but let me brush you up, he is the one everyone is obsessed with from Les Miserables, he also had an arch on Gossip Girl. Then there is Brandon Jay McLaren, he's been in a bunch of things I used to watch like The Best Years, Being Erica and he was in She's the Man! Vanessa Farlito plays Charlie, and I think she's just kick-ass, you may recognize her from CSI:NY. And then Manny Montana, I haven't seen him in anything before, but he is fine and so funny in the pilot.

So good plot and a solid cast. No reason for you not to be watching June 6th at 10pm on USA, right? I should be getting paid for this endorsment... That was extensive.

Will you be watching Graceland this summer?

It's been a few weeks since I've seen a movie, so sad! I have so much catching up to do! But my friends and I have been waiting for this one for quite some time now. Them, probably cause they thought it looked great, me because I thought it looked hilarious. And well, I was dying through most of the movie. There really isn't any spoilers to give away since it is such an iconic, classic book. So you probably know what to expect with the story before going in. But we can analyze the other aspects of the movie.

For example, visually the movie was beautiful. The shots were gorgeous and glamorous, especially Gatsby's mansion and the parties. The 3D wasn't bad, it was just the fact there was no need for the movie to be in 3D. Also, the soundtrack was terrific. I loved all the Jay-Z, even though it makes no sense why his music is being played in the 20s. I mean what? But he was the executive producer, so he just had put in as much of himself as he could. And I didn't mind so much.

Now, the part that I just couldn't take was.... the acting. Why Tobey Maguire? Why are you an actor? Just no. Go away. I cannot take him seriously, and he is just not a good leading man. I understand he wasn't Gatsby, but I was not feeling him. When he gets mad, I just laugh. Then there is Leo, and I probably have mentioned this many times before. But he and I have a love/hate relationship. It cracks me up just how seriously he takes his acting. And now after Django, I don't think I will ever be able to watch a movie of his without dying laughing. He's just too serious. There was one scene in particular where he looses his temper, dead. Oh, and I never realized how big a creeper Gatsby was until I saw it acted out. I mean, he was a creep of nature, so was Nick(Maguire)! But I think DiCaprio was a good choice for Gatsby, I mean who else could have done it? I enjoyed the rest of the cast much more than the two of them though. I thought Carey Mulligan was a great pick for Daisy and Joel Edgerton transformed himself really well for Tom Buchanan. His accent was so much better than whatever DiCaprio was trying to sound like.

Overall, it was a pretty looking movie with a great soundtrack. But I think it focused on that too much and kind of missed actually trying to bring the book justice.
