Fresh off from my first week of my last semester in college and watching One Direction: This is Us. My friend and I have been waiting for this movie! Not because we're the biggest fans, moreso because we are rather indifferent towards them. And cause I have to watch everything! I watched both The Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber movie when they came out, so I was ready for this!
Now, I feel like I'm going to hear the wrath of all Directioners, if they happen to find this... Because the movie was quite a disappointment. Which was surprising. Mainly because I know that all the guys(Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik), are funny. The movie really doesn't bring that side of them out. They tried with a few random scenes here and there, but it was more of a straight up documentary.
In that sense the movie was fantastic. It was directed by Morgan Spurlock(Supersize Me), and he did a fantastic job shooting the movie. It was visually stunning! The concert shots were gorgeous, you really felt like you were there. There were fantastic effects and the 3D was worth it!
We hear a lot about them being goofy, they often are when they do their live chats, but none of that was captured in the movie. My friend and I thought that maybe if the movie wasn't rated PG, we would have gotten more. Because we know that the British lads aren't all that censored, but the movie had to be for their fan base. If there is some unrated version of their lives, it would be much more interesting. I have to say, my favorite has always been Liam, but I totally loved Niall a lot more after watching it. He really puts a lot of effort into connecting with their fans. Oh and he's hilarious!
Literally my favorite part was Martin Scorsese. Yes, that's right, Martin Scorsese went to a 1D concert! Well, he went with his daughter, but there was a whole scene of the guys meeting him. Listen, I would have died. My life would have been set right then and there! I have to say that Zayn is super talented, his graffiti room is amazing! And he draws BATMAN! Dananana awesome! Also, the end credits had funny clips. Which was great because that is what I was looking for, but that should have been IN the movie!
Oh, and we can't end this without talking about their music. Most of the songs they played were their big hits like 'Kiss You', 'What Makes You Beautiful' and 'Little Things'. They also did an interesting cover of 'Teenage Dirtbag', which I did not love. But hey, good effort. However, there is no denying the boys can sing live! And I appreciate any musician who can sing live.
Are you a Directioner? Who is your favorite?
Will you be checking the boys out this weekend?
