I had to go support my love Logan Lerman. He only comes to my big screen once ever year or so. I can't miss that. He reprised his role of Percy Jackson in the sequel to The Lightning Thief. The movie picks up a little while after where the last movie ended. If you haven't seen the first, you don't really have to. My friend got a bit confused at a couple minor things, but was not completely lost.
All you really need to know about the first movie is that Percy finds out he is a demi-God, half human/half God. Because he is the son of Poseidon, the God of the Sea. The cast was fantastic and was directed by Christopher Columbus, but he and a lot of the original cast did not make an appearance in this movie. There were some new additions like Stanley Tucci and Nathan Filion, both whom are fantastic. My favorite addition to the movie was Douglas Smith's character Tyson, who was a complete goofball. He was a nice addition to the group.
In Sea of Monsters, Percy and his friends go on a quest to find a golden fleece. All the demi-Gods go to a camp to train and to be protected. The camp is protected by a tree that guards them in from monsters and such. The tree is poisoned, which breaks the protective barrier of the camp. The fleece can bring back anyone or anything to life. The movie ensues with Percy and his friends battling monsters to get the fleece.
My lover is fantastic, he is as adorable as always. But I enjoyed the first movie better. You can tell this movie had a bigger budget with all the effects and such. It was intended to be a 3D movie, but I didn't watch it that way, so I didn't get the full effect. But some of the supernatural beings turned out cool. In all seriousness, the movie is a bit cheesy, but so was the first one. However, the first movie had more humor written in, which probably made it even cheesier, but I enjoyed that. I feel like they wanted this to be a really cool action adventure that they focused more on that. If you want to give Percy Jackson a shot, I recommend the first film.
