Don't know what to watch this weekend? Fruitvale Stationis both worth your time and money. With a summer full of empty comedies and pointless action, this is a movie with an important message. I have been waiting to see this movie for quite some time, and it did not disappoint one bit.
Fruitvale Station is based off the life of Oscar Grant. If you are unaware of his story, it is one to know. I won't give it away if you want the movie to be a surprise, but it is a true story, so regardless it is something you should know about. This movie comes out at a key time, considering the Trayvon Martin case, which just ended. They are similar stories, and both should never be forgotten.
Not only is the message of the movie majorly imporant, but it was a terrific film. All the actors did a fantastic job bringing this story justice. I always love me some Michael B. Jordan, I've been following his career for years, and I love that people are really taking notice of him for this role, he deserves it. He paints a wonderful picture of the man Oscar Grant was. And Octavia Spencer, who is always fantastic, does a great job portraying Oscar's mom, Wanda. The movie gives a great feel of what their relationship was and the love they had for family. The relationship between Oscar and his girl Sophina, played by Melonie Diaz, is really nice. But what really hit me was the relationship between him and his daughter Tatiana, played by the wonderful Ariana Neal. Just so much love he has for his daughter, my heart melted during all their scenes.
For you movie people, it was a nice movie touch that the director had all of the text messages Oscar sent out highlighted. Considering, the reason we all know what happened that day is because people were recording the whole event on their cell phones. The real footage is shown at the beginning of the film. First-time director, Ryan Coogler, does a great job with this delicate story.
I know we all go to the movies to get away from reality and escape, but sometimes we have to acknowledge real life and be aware of what is happening in the world. This movie needed to be made and deserves to be seen.
Hollywood was struck with the tragic death of actor Paul Walker on Saturday, who was best known for his leading role in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Paul died in a tragic car accident in Santa Clarita, California after he and a friend slammed into a light pole while driving a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. He was 40-years-old.
