Now that Fall TV is in full swing, it's time to weed out the good and the bad. I've checked out the majority of pilots so far, there are still some left. At this point, I know what I will definitely be tuning into each week. There were quite a handful of new shows that came out this season, but only a few that really struck a chord with me. The main one being, ABC's Nashville. If you haven't checked it out yet, you should, and I will tell you why!
A little background on the show, it is about Rayna Jaymes, played by Connie Britton, a beloved country star, who is kind of running her course. And Juliette Barnes, Hayden Panettiere, comes along with her young pop-ier country music and blows up. Now, the label wants Rayna to go on tour with Juliette, as her opening act. Considering Rayna is pretty much a country icon, she is not on board with this concept, but is put in a position where she has to figure out what to do... Here are just a few reasons to check out the show:
1. The Cast/Characters
The reason I checked the show out, Connie Britton. If you've ever read my posts, you would know that I am a HUGE Friday Night Lights fan, and Connie Britton was just fantastic in that show. Plus, she was pretty great in American Horror Story last season. She knows how to pick them. I gotta admit, I'm not a Hayden Panettiere fan, but she is pretty good at playing a bitch, for lack of a better word. The characters are all very interesting with a lot of depth. So far, my favorite characters are Deacon Claybourne, Scarlett O'Conner, Gunnar Scott, and of course Rayna!
It is super juicy! There is already so much drama, and it just started. This isn't one of those shows that is only about one thing, there is a lot going on, but everything is tied together. First there is the whole 'Nashville' thing about Rayna and Juliette being musicians and competing for the spotlight. On top of that rivalry, there is a whole political element to the show regarding Rayna's father, who is EVIL, and her husband played by handsome, Eric Close. If that wasn't enough, there is a whole love rectangle going on with Rayna, Juliette, Rayna's husband and fellow musician Deacon Claybourne. What?! Yeah, there is so much going on! And that isn't even half of it. There is bound to be at least one storyline that hooks you in!
3. The Music
The show is about Nashville, of course there is going to be some country music. I never thought Connie Britton could sing, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't, but she's doing alright so far. Hayden is not too bad, she definitely has more experience with it. Plus, the music is done by T-Bone Burnett, does it get any better than that? In the pilot, there was a cover of The Civil Wars 'If I Didn't Know Better' done by the two characters I mentioned earlier, Scarlett and Gunnar, they are newbies trying to make it in Nashville. It was amazing. Scarlett is played by Clare Bowen, and her voice is incredible. And of course Gunnar, major cutie, played by Sam Palledio. Check out the song here!
You can check out Nashville on ABC Wednesday nights at 10/9c
At the peak of Blink-182’s fame, Tom DeLonge had a lot of ideas kicking through his head. At a tour stop in Paris, sitting his hotel room, the singer came up with the concept of a character named Poet Anderson. Now, nearly 15 years later, he’s ready to incorporate that idea into a much larger and ambitious project with Angels & Airwaves than he’s ever attempted before.
