Can you guys believe the Globes are tomorrow? It will be the 69th Annual Golden Globes and will be on Sunday, I'm rather excited! Ricky Gervais will be hosting, again, which should be interesting. This is the fun award show, especially since it has television and movies. Overall, this past year was pretty good. I enjoyed the previous year with movies much more, but there have been quite a few great new television series this year! You can check out list of nominees which I posted last month. Right now I'm going to weigh in my opinion. Who I want to win, who I think will win, and some notable snubs will be drizzled in.
Best Drama Movie
My pick: The Help - It is such an amazing story and made so well. The cast was fantastic and it was such a strong female driven movie, which I always admire. I think it captured the time period so well and it was the perfect balance of drama and comedy.
Will Win: The Descendants - This seems to be the only real competition getting in the way of The Help winning. War Horse was actually really good, but doesn't really stand a chance. Hugo was only nominated because Martin Scorcese directed it. Then we are left with Idles of March and Moneyball. I'm not surprised that Pitt's Moneyball was nominated, but the highly anticipated Tree of Life, was completely shut-out. Of all of them, the only one that got much buzz this year was The Descendants. George against George?
Best Comedy Movie
My Pick: 50/50 - Now this is such a tough call. 50/50 is the only movie in this category that I watched, and I really enjoyed, but they are in a tight spot. I have to admit they have no chance of winning. This movie is definitely the weakest link in the category if not Carnage, but I will root for Joseph Gordon-Levitt! It was such an intense topic that he and Seth Rogen made light of and made really sweet and relateable. It was a good movie, not great though. Otherwise I'd like to see Bridesmaids or My Week with Marilyn take it home!
Will Win: The Artist - This movie has gotten so much praise, but I don't even know where I can go to watch it. I have to admit I don't really know much about this movie, other than the fact it's in black & white.
Best Animated Movie
My Pick/Will Win: Rango - Adventures of Tintin seems to be the only competition. Rango was really interestingly made with having the actors do it live-action. Plus, it was just really good. Johnny Depp should do more animated movies!
Best Actor Drama
My Pick: Michael Fassbender - This is a complete leap of faith, because I haven't watched any of the movies the guys are nominated for. Also, they didn't give Gary Oldman the nomination he deserves for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. But Shame looked like a great movie! Plus, I love watching the underdog win. Fassbender had his break this year when he starred in X-Men: First Class. I'd love him to trump Clooney and Pitt.
Will Win: George Clooney - No explanation neccessary.
Best Actress Drama
My Pick: Viola Davis - She is one of best drama actresses out there. I'm serious. She was fantastic in this movie and should win! I still can't believe she didn't win for Doubt.
Will Win: Meryl Streep - Yet again, self-explanatory.
Best Actor Comedy/Musical
My Pick: Ryan Gosling - You may have wondered why I didn't pick him for Drama, but that's cause I think he has a much better shot in this category! I haven't seen Idles of March, but I loved Crazy, Stupid, Love. Oh RyGos, please win. Just so I can see some close-up shots of you.
Will Win: Jean Dujardin - AKA the dude from The Artist. If there is sweep for this movie, it's all over.
Best Actress Comedy/Musical
My Pick/Will Win: Michelle Williams - This is her year! She was snubbed for Brokeback Mountain and Blue Valentine, if she doesn't win for this, it will be devastating. I mean she really immersed herself in this role, she completely deserves it. Charlize Theron was great in Young Adult. Thank God Kate Winslet is nominated for something else, or no one would stood a chance.
Best Supporting Actor Movie
My Pick: Albert Brooks - This is pretty much the only love for Drive. I mean the movie got so much buzz it deserves the recognition. Also, I don't understand why RyGos got nominated for Idles of March and not Drive. Doesn't make any sense..
Will Win: Chistopher Plummer - He's seems to be the front-runner this year. He's also the only real nomination for Beginners.
Best Supporting Actress Movie
My Pick/Will Win: Octavia Spencer - Can someone give her an Oscar already?! She stole the movie. I've always loved her, she is so funny! I'm glad she is finally getting some recognition. If there was a way to giver her and Jessica Chastain the award, that would be great. But it's for the same movie, so it's all good.
My Pick: Michel Hazanavicius - Simply cause I don't want The Artist to win anything else, and I don't mind sharing the wealth. I hope that if the movie wins it's only for this!
Will Win: Martin Scorsese - Nuff said.
Best TV Drama
My Pick: Game of Thrones - Well, Friday Nights Lights, was snubbed as always... So... No, but Game of Thrones is great. I was late on the bandwagon, but this show is fantastic. From the beginning, I was hooked.
Will Win: Homeland - Something about this show seems to have an edge over the others. I haven't checked it out yet, so I couldn't tell you. But I have a feeling they are going to win.
Best TV Comedy
My Pick: New Girl - I'm still a bit shocked they were nominated, but it's the on comedy that I watch that was. How was Big Bang Theory not nominated?! Anyway, this show is too funny and adorable. It would be a shock if they won, but completely awesome!
Will Win: Modern Family - Have they ever not won? For some reason I feel like they always win everything, which is probably not true. But as long as they are around, I don't think any other show has much luck.
My Pick/Will Win: Downtown Abbey - I've been meaning to watch it, but I've only heard good things. It looks terrific. The only other major competition is Mildred Pierce. But I think Abbey will pull through.
Best Drama Actor
My Pick: Kyle Chandler - Oh wait, he wasn't nominated. Stupid! He won the Emmy this year and wasn't even NOMINATED for a Globe? Ridiculous. Ok, sorry. Steve Buschemi. Since Sean Bean for Game of Thrones isn't nominated either, I will back the Boardwalk.
Will Win: Bryan Cranston - Because no one ever stands a chance against him.
Best Drama Actress
My Pick: Mirelle Enos - The Killing is one of my favorite new shows and she is just amazing. And since Connie Britton isn't nominated for Friday Night Lights or American Horror Story... For real though?
Will Win: Claire Danes - Because everyone loves her.
Best Comedy Actor
My Pick: Johnny Galecki - Sheldon Cooper isn't nominated!? Leonard, you will have to suffice.
Will Win: Matt LeBlanc - Who doesn't miss Friends?
Best Comedy Actress
My Pick: Zooey Deschanel - Cause she is the most adorable person on the planet. I love Jess! If you watch the show, you'll fall in love instantly.
Will Win: Laura Dern - She seems to be the type who would win. A favorite of many and the show has gotten lots of buzz.
Best Actor Mini-Series/TV Movie
My Pick/Will Win: Idris Elba - I haven't watched any of these, nor do I know anyone else nominated. But Elba is a great actor, so I'll just put all my money on him.
Best Actress Mini-Series/TV Movie
Will Win - I don't even think 'My Pick' is neccessary because Kate Winslet always wins. She has that same shocked face as Taylor Swift too, like stop it, you know you're going to win.
Best Supporting Actor TV/Mini-Series
My Pick/Will Win: Peter Dinklage - Because he is complete awesomeness! Definitely one of my favorite characters on Game of Thrones. He completely deserves it. Plus, he doesn't have much competition, in my eyes.
Best Supporting Actress TV/Mini-Series
My Pick/Will Win: Maggie Smith - Because she deserves it and she's magical!
So will you be tuning in Sunday night?
What/Who do you want to see win?
